HIS STORY.

IMG_0173.HEIC

Dhruv started playing music at eight when he began learning the piano in Scotland. As his playing skills grew with the instrument, so did his confidence. He took out multiple songs and began playing in groups and ensembles in and out of school. When he moved to Southampton a few years later, he took up the guitar, vocals, and drums, which boosted his love and passion for performing. With the guitar and drums, he took inspiration from styles such as pop, rock, blues, funk, and jazz to add to his versatility in his playing. He listened to bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Dirty Loops, Tom Misch, Arctic Monkeys and Rex Orange County to help him innovate his style and take on these genres.

After finishing school, Dhruv pursued his desire to perform these instruments in bands at college like Piano Club and Contemporary Music Practitioner. The latter group was part of a Level 3 Rockschool certificate, where he demonstrated more than strong musicianship skills (where he played the keyboard in an assessed 10-song set). He was assigned to write reflective essays based on the preparation required to run a gig successfully, such as having an exceptional performance persona and stage presence, finding a well-managed venue, and an organised equipment arrangement.

Following this, he completed a five-day internship at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. He learnt the basics of recording and editing music using Logic Pro and practised these skills when recording other colleagues' originals. His perception of sound changed from then on, and his love for music deepened. Over the past four years, he had decided to indulge in production and songwriting, creating various pieces of music in DAWs like Logic Pro to add to his portfolio. He frequently composes and produces songs and instrumentals in styles like soul, pop, rock and jazz. During this time, at undergraduate university level, he took on a number of sound design and music technology modules. In his studies, he learnt other creative aspects like sampling, programming, and composing numerous short film and library scores, all of which have played into his production skills.

As an artist and producer, he has collaborated with multiple local musicians and producers who have helped shape his style and perception of sound as well as his past experiences. Going forward, he will carry this approach to get the best out of himself as well as other artists.

He looks to continue improving and carrying on his passion for music production while stacking his portfolio and undergoing a master's degree in September 2023!
